Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Plastic Food Packaging?

Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Plastic Food Packaging?

Cultural values keep evolving in spurts in the kitchen and elsewhere. A specific method of doing all the steps involved in the cooking and doing it all the way seems very good. But the plastic wrapping makes the whole method questionable.

In our homes, we use plastic wrap commonly. For example, whenever we have to take away leftover meals, we use plastic wrap paper and cover it for takeaway. A few years ago, we used the plastic wrap for almost all the food, even pastry, cake, or something else.

When we try to replace the plastic wrap from our kitchens, we realize that we are too used to it. So now, when I have to cover my leftover food or some hot chicken, I simply cover it with a plate over the bowl. And it works just fine.

Check the rules and regulations for single-use plastic in eight cities, including California and Oregon. It looks like the first initiative taken from some states in America. France banned plastic packaging over 30 specific fruit and vegetable items in its new revolution.

A poll conducted in France showed that 85% of people voted for banning single-use plastic. In addition to this, Spain has claimed to ban plastic in 2023. So now it’s time for us to seek ways to lessen the use of plastic in our kitchens and daily lives.

Cellophane is another excellent idea. Synthetic packaging is necessary to save food, fruits, and vegetables from plastic wrapping. But it looks less attractive. The common use of plastic for multiple purposes makes us feel that we have been using plastic wrappings for food forever.

But studies show it is a recent invention. Even in 1940, we used wax paper to wrap food, and it is still an incredible way for safe food. Moreover, it is biodegradable, and you will certainly contribute to condemning the use of plastic.

Before the common use of plastic wrapping and its invention for covering meals, cooks found valuable ways to make food safe for hours. The oldest wrapping of all time is the famous husk leaf. It added a pleasant smell as well as made the food more delicious.

We are still many miles away from getting completely rid of plastic in our lives. We cannot cook and eat without plastic usage at this time. We have to find other ways to completely take plastic out of our daily lives.

Reusable beeswax wrap and Japanese bento boxes are great ideas for not using plastic. You can use old glass jars to save leftover salads or put half of an apple in them.

Using brown bags for meals is still one of my favorite ideas in the place of plastic bags. We must use a better alternative to plastic wrapping for covering our meals. Avoiding plastic should be the rule of our daily life.
